MAI VORFREUDE

10:20 PM

Hello, reader. It's almost May, which I am really excited about. Hence the blog title: Anticipating May! I love May, despite its often unbearable heat (or, in 2013's case, snow), for many reasons. The two biggest are that school is over in May and my birthday is at the end of the month! I have not yet outgrown being happy about my birthday...especially since this year it is set to coincide with my family's trek to Indiana to watch one of my cousins graduate from high school. Hopefully I'll get to visit Funky Bones while I'm there.

Emily and I are also going to go see Rainbow Rowell in Dallas in two weeks!! I am so excited since she's written some of my favorite books!

Also, Mumford and Sons is releasing a new album in one short week! I absolutely love the songs they played on SNL a few weeks ago, and I'm sure the rest of the album is similarly delightful.

And here are some photos:

My lovely sister, dying eggs before any of the actual children at our family's Easter shindig. As always, the fried okra was to die for.

Aldi had Apfelschorle, my absolute favorite drink of all time, in honor of Germany Week!!!

But seriously, is this America or Germany? Mueller and Ehrmann yogurt just chillin' next to each other like we're in EDEKA or something...

My mom's class had chicks. I went by to see them one Friday after school because I went home to go see Phantom of the Opera at the Tulsa PAC with her. I hadn't seen that show since 2008 - it was still pretty creepy because I knew something bad was going to happen but couldn't quite remember when it would happen! I believe that I've mentioned before that I love going to see shows in Tulsa because the crowd reacts however they want to. If a song's great, people clap and yell "whooo!" because they'd rather show their appreciation than be restrained. It reminds me of what I've read about theater in Shakespeare's time.

Today I experienced an April shower! It's been raining for the past 9 1/2 hours straight...I got drenched walking from class back to my car, but it was okay since I was just going home.

I recently finished up reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. I liked TID a bit more than TMI, but you kinda need to read the first three book of TMI or else I think you'd be a bit confused when you started Clockwork Angel. According to the internet, people seem to like Will Herondale better than Jem Carstairs, but I personally liked Jem better. There are enough witty people in the world; having a character who places such an emphasis on kindness was lovely.

(Related note: The Mortal Instruments is going to be a tv show. I have mixed feelings about this...I watched like 20 minutes of the City of Bones movie before getting upset because the Institute, Jace, Isabelle, and Alec didn't look right and turning it off.)

I also read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. It was weird because I was reading it at the same time I was reading Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess, and both have elements of the supernatural. I thought this book was pretty good, especially I had convinced myself that I had grown out of reading vampire books. (This is patently untrue since that book and the Shadowhunter books have vampires in them. I guess I just grew out of reading bad Twilight knock-off vampire books. Vampires can be okay, but you have to do it right.)

Reader, I hope your end of April and start of May is a delight! I may write up something about wrapping up one year of graduate school soon...so until then, I remain yours most truly,

Chelsea

(I'm not sure why I'm so into second person today. Oh well.)
